This isn’t a culinary masterpiece; it’s a fun project to do with kids. Save your duck sauce packets from Chinese restaurants and when you have fifty, it’s time to make some ice cream. The ice cream is sweet and a bit tangy, just like duck sauce.

  • 50 packets duck sauce
  • 1 packet soy sauce
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups half-and-half

In a sturdy saucepan, combine all ingredients. Heat over a medium flame, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from the heat and continue stirring for five minutes. Pour into a heat-proof container and store in the refrigerator until completely cold, preferably overnight.

Freeze the batter according to your ice cream maker’s directions.
